Bowel Cancer - Colonoscopy
Colorectal cancer is 3rd most common cancer overall. It is the second most common in women after breast cancer. It is the 2nd most common cause of cancer death in the UK. It affects about 1 in 20 people in the UK.
Bowel cancer screening reduces the risk of dying from bowel cancer by 16% (see more). At we offer colonoscopy (camera) for those at risk, persistent symptoms like bleeding, or those with family history or those that have reached the age of 60. We offer this to patients with insurance or who are self-paying.
For those in whom colonoscopy is not possible for whatever reason, we will do an alternative, like CT colonography.
For self-paying patients, contact us for further discussions.
Haemorrhoidal pain - A thing of the past
The days of prolonged post-operative pain after haemorrhoid surgery is over for most patients.
With the new minimally invasive haemorrhoidal artery ligation operation (HALO) or transanal haemorrhoidal dearterisation (THD), the surgical treatment is now essentially painless. Sitting is no longer a problem and you can resume normal activity in 24-48 hours.
This procedure is now offered at the BMI Priory and Edgbaston Hospitals, Birmingham.
Click on the BBC logo to listen to a patient’s account of the THD procedure. (Please note, it is now a well established procedure and now in Birmingham)
“Thank you very much for the past 4 months of colorectal experience, I have enjoyed it very much and you have inspired me to continue down the path to become a surgeon one day!”
